Before an army of volunteers can take care of every little detail on the course, a team behind the scenes needs to dot the i’s and cross the t’s to make it all happen.

The senior assistants at The Country Club each have unique backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common…they play a vital role in the success of this week’s championship.

For Eric Richardson, Director of Grounds at Essex County Club, volunteering for this week’s major is an opportunity to learn and give back.

Dave Johnson cut his teeth as an assistant at Wachusett Country Club alongside a fourth generation of the Marrone family who owned the club. Now, Michael Marrone gets to spend time as a volunteer at our nation’s biggest championship.

His love for the game of golf drove Adam Bennett to become a superintendent, and his passion for the property has made him an invaluable member of the team at The Country Club.

Toby Christoun was set on becoming a superintendent, but his mechanical nature led him to his role as equipment and shop manager at The Country Club, where his turf background and technical aptitude are invaluable assets to the program.

Superintendent Anthony Howard has spent more than a decade at The Country Club and has been instrumental in creating the team-first culture within the agronomy department.

Boston is home to legendary sports teams and venues, including The Country Club in Brookline and the group of staff and volunteers preparing the course to host our nation’s biggest championship.
